Privacy Notice Emmerdale star Alfie Clarke has confirmed that he is due to return to the role of Arthur Thomas in Emmerdale soon. In an Instagram post he wrote: “Good to be back @emmerdale #emmerdale #backtowork #soapopera #village,” to announce that he had returned to filming, sharing a photo of the road leading into fictional Emmerdale. Alfie’s teen character Arthur has been absent from the Yorkshire-set soap for the last few weeks, meaning he wasn’t present for the big storyline involving his mum, Laurel. She collapsed at the start of this month and was rushed to hospital, having had a heart attack following a heated argument with her husband Jai Sharma. Laurel returned home during the episode on Tuesday 9 July, where she was greeted by her family, including Jai, Archie, Dotty and Gabby. However, there was no sign of Arthur. Sharp-eared fans did hear a reference to where Arthur was in an episode the week before. Gabby was chatting to her stepmum Laurel about her current living situation at Home Farm, and Laurel suggested Gabby and her son Thomas should move into Mulberry Cottage. “Arthur’s in Australia and there’s more than enough room in the inn. Gabby, you and Thomas are family – you’re always welcome. And, to be honest, I could do with another woman in the house,” she said in the only reference to Arthur being away. There had never been any mention of Arthur going to Australia before this, but it is likely that the line was inserted to explain actor Alfie’s absence when Laurel’s dramatic storyline began. Since Alfie is 16 years old, his absence in the show would have been because he would have been sitting his GCSE exams while Emmerdale was filming.
Alfie stars as Arthur Thomas in the ITV soap
Alfie’s post about his return to the soap was welcomed by fans. “Welcome back. It will be great to see you on our television screens,” wrote one of his followers, while another added: “At last, really miss you!” and a third commented: “Yeah, missed your mug mister.” Another added: “Can’t wait to see you back on the TV screens again you r a brill actor keep up the brill work cos u r amazing.” When his character Arthur returns from Australia, he will not only learn of his mum’s heart attack but also discover Laurel and Jai have split up. He’s not the only character coming back, either, as actress Rebecca Bakes, who plays Angelica King, has also confirmed her return. Angelica was sent to jail for killing her friend Heath Hope during a joy ride over the new year and left Emmerdale in March. She is expected to be back on our screens in September.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
