The television favourites, who became household names during their 15-year run as co-hosts on ITV’s This Morning from 2006 until 2021, revealed in May this year that they were to divorce following 14 years of marriage. But in a revealing conversation on the How To Be 60 podcast with Kaye Adams and Karen Mackenzie, which was released in February 2023, 64 year old Eamonn shone a light on his and Ruth’s relationship and explained how humour was an important part of their time together.

When quizzed about whether laughter was a constant in their relationship, the GB News presenter shared: “Oh, I’d have to laugh a lot married to her, yes. I mean, as she said… she always said to me, ‘If you didn’t make me laugh so much, we’d be divorced’. That’s what she says.” He continued, highlighting their strong bond: “But yeah, we have a good relationship from the (that) point of view. Ruth’s got a very good sense of humour and we do… we do laugh a lot. She can take a joke very well.”

Discussing his outlook on the coming decade, the TV personality discussed his desire for financial stability, to be able to retire and to know when it’s “time to get off the stage”, reports the Express. He also mentioned he wouldn’t mind hosting a show about train journeys across Canada. In May 2023, a spokesperson confirmed the news that the pair had called time on their relationship after 14 years of marriage. “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing,” they said. On Monday, 22 July, 64 year old Ruth made her return to daytime chat show Loose Women for the first time since the news was announced where she hosted the show alongside Brenda Edwards, Coleen Nolan and Janet Street Porter. As the show began, Coleen paused proceedings in order to share her joy at Ruth being back on the panel, leading the live audience to give a cheer.
