Privacy NoticeLoose Women fans were left less than impressed after an interview with sperm donor Jonathan Meije took a disastrous turn on the show. The panel, made up of Kaye Adams, Katie Piper, Linda Robson and Jane Moore, tackled a variety of hot topics this Friday (July 26) before welcoming Jonathan for a virtual chat. Jonathan, a Dutch sperm donor who has found himself in the middle of controversy for fathering over 500 children and allegedly misleading families, joined the discussion to give his side of the story. Despite the Netflix series title, The Man with 1000 Kids, which dropped earlier this month, Jonathan insists his offspring count is at 550, not the thousand suggested by the show. However, the interview quickly went downhill as Jonathan continually interrupted the panellists, leading to clear frustration as they tried to delve into the controversial documentary, reports the Mirror.

As the episode played out, unhappy viewers didn’t hold back in voicing their annoyance online. One fan slammed the segment on X, previously known as Twitter, posting: “Nah Loose Women, this is the worst interview I’ve ever seen. All four women don’t know how to interview. How can you ask a sperm donor why he doesn’t take care of his kids #loosewomen”. Another viewer added: “Am I missing something? Surely he only donated to women who had requested donation? #loosewomen.” One viewer took to Twitter to express their disappointment with the show, posting: “The @loosewomen interview with the Dutch sperm donor was terrible. They almost condemned this man for helping 550 women have children. And said he’s a ‘dad without the responsibilities’? What a joke. If nobody wanted to be a donor. Men would be the bad guys. #loosewomen.”

Jonathan had previously revealed that he voluntarily stopped donating sperm to new recipients back in 2019. This decision was partly due to his desire to focus on starting his own family. Fast forward to four years later, and a Dutch court ordered him to stop donating sperm, destroy any stored by clinics, and reportedly hit him with a €100,000 fine for any future violation, although it does allow for mothers who want biological siblings for their donor children. Meijer chose not to participate in The Man with 1000 Kids as he believes it’s not in the best interest of the donor children. “I think it’s really capitalising on these families, who were infertile or just wanted to have families,” he says. “They’re good people, lovely people, and now people will ask them: ‘Oh, is your child one from the 1,000 donor doc?’ Is the doc going to do any good for the children?'”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
