Privacy NoticeThe BBC’s coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony on Friday night was met with criticism from viewers just minutes in. The ceremony, which featured an array of dazzling performances from the likes of Lady Gaga and athletes sailing down the River Seine, was unfortunately marred by the unpredictable weather. Viewers took to X, formerly Twitter, to voice their complaints, with one user saying: “Can’t quite hear over the rain #Olympics #OpeningCeremony”. Another frustrated viewer wrote, “You can hear the rain over the music and singing…did anyone thought about giving them individual mics and mic receivers so the world can hear what’s going on or more for whoever is watching on the Seine? #OlympicGames #olympics #OpeningCeremony.”

A third viewer simply asked, “Why is the rain louder than the music? ? ? #Olympics #OpeningCeremony #bbc,” reports the Mirror. Elsewhere, various accounts echoed the same complaint with comments such as: “I can hear the rain louder than the music/singing… #Olympics #BBCOlympics”; “Why can I hear the rain more than the opera singer! ? ! ? ! #Olympics #OpeningCeremony.” Another wrote: “This is embarrassing. Can’t hear her sing because of the rain! #Olympics.” Others tweeted: “Someone should turn off those outside mics where you can just hear the rain #Olympics”. Meanwhile, another fan added: “The rain is louder than the music #Olympics,” and another fan added: “Shame about the rain being picked up on the microphone #OpeningCeremony #Paris2024 #BBCOlympics.” Concerns raised came after BBC viewers feared that the rainy weather could spoil the grand opening ceremony for Paris Olympics 2024 on Friday night. Beforehand, the BBC sweetened the mood by airing a fun Tom Hiddleston video along with interviews with numerous sports stars.

Clare Balding hosted the show in studio, joined by Rebecca Adlington, Michael Johnson and Chris Hoy. But soon they mentioned a sudden shift in weather when they all had stepped off the red carpet as it began to rain. Clare, 53, noted that it was turning damp outdoors just as the opening festivities were about to begin. Twitter was awash with concern from X viewers expressing their worries that the inclement weather could affect the grandeur of the opening ceremony. One user lamented: “Rotten luck that the weather is bad for tonight’s #Olympics opening in Paris.” Another fretted: “Oh dear the #olympics opening ceremony weather don’t look good!” while one sighed: “Not the best weather in Paris sigh #Olympics”.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
