Privacy NoticeStrictly Come Dancing said farewell to its fourth celeb in a high-tension dance-off on Sunday night. JB Gill and Amy Dowden faced Paul Merson and Karen Hauer, in a nail-biter that left the audience gasping. The judge’s panel was unanimous in their decision to save JLS heartthrob JB, meaning it was all over for ex-footballer Paul. Reflecting on his exit from the show, he remarked: “It’s been really good. For anybody I talk to, I would say you’ve got to go on this show. It’s amazing everybody. There’s a Tottenham fan over there called Lincoln and even he’s nice.” Partner Karen expressed her pride, saying: “Every week you showed up you improved, you’re what Strictly is all about.”

Despite the warmth, Paul couldn’t resist a cheeky jab at her, quipping: “Could of done better in the last dance if I’m being honest.” He quickly made amends though: “No she’s been amazing. Couldn’t have asked for a better coach.” Paul shared with the audience his internal victory, feeling like he nailed the Strictly challenge. As he put it: “because I can dance, I couldn’t dance before and I can half dance now so it’s a bonus”. His departure was down to the judges spotting timing hiccups. Motsi Mabuse pointed out: “JB made quite a few mistakes but he kept up with the music…Paul…it was lots of fun and joy but you just didn’t keep to the music.” Anton Du Beke didn’t mince his words when he addressed the couples, saying: “With all due respect to both couples, this wasn’t great. It shouldn’t have been this close, it should have been a much easier decision to make. JB not your best night… Paul if you were clean I would have saved you, but you weren’t clean.” Even though Paul had already been eliminated, Shirley Ballas echoed Anton’s sentiment and admitted she would have saved JB as well.
