Privacy NoticeDue to the current coronavirus pandemic, McDonald’s have just announced that all of its UK restaurants will be closing their seating areas and will temporarily just be offering takeaway, delivery and drive-thru only. The best-loved fast food chain have said in a statement that this drastic measure will come in to play at 5 am on Wednesday 18 March. These measures will be enacted throughout all branches in the UK and Ireland, and additionally all delivery orders via Just Eat or Uber Eats will involve “no physical contact between customers, employees and couriers wherever possible.”

The official statement added: “In these unprecedented times, our restaurants will continue to remain open for as long as it is safe to do so.” Paul Pomroy, McDonald’s UK and Ireland boss, said of the changes: “The wellbeing of our employees, customers and suppliers remains of the greatest importance to us and these changes are designed with you all in mind. “We have not taken this decision lightly and will continue to review this over the coming days.” The company that make Big Macs last week revealed that it would be taking steps to improve its overall hygiene and cleaning protocol in order to help tackle the spread of coronavirus.

These steps included more rigorous sanitisation of surfaces and the touch-screen tablets used for ordering food, as well as more regular cleaning with disinfectants and reminding employees to constantly wash their hands. The fast food giant has also decided to delay their Monopoly promotion which sees customers able to win a whole myriad of prizes and is immensely popular with fans. They have put it on pause owing to the fact that during this global health crisis they cannot yet be confident that people will be able to collect, claim or redeem their winnings or prizes.

McDonald’s said: “This year’s prizes include a number of luxury holidays, European city breaks and cruises which will have all been impacted by current and ongoing restrictions on international travel. Following conversations with our suppliers and prize partners, we feel it is appropriate to delay the promotion until later this year.
