The country has been left in a state of shock from the horrific events that unfolded at a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga workshop in Southport. On Monday, July 29, 2024, three children lost their lives and a further eight sustained injuries in a stabbing incident. Five of the injured children are said to be in a critical condition. A 17-year-old is being held in custody, suspected of murder and attempted murder. The impact was palpable during This Morning when a woman named Sandra expressed her anguish to agony aunt Deirdre Sanders on Tuesday, July 30.

Still visibly shaken by the Southport attack, Sandra admitted it had opened a difficult wound for her, as she spoke about her granddaughter’s death to the morning show. The confession overwhelmed Rochelle with emotion, leading her to briefly step away to compose herself on-air. Following the distressing call, Rochelle struggled to contain her emotions, discreetly dabbing at her eyes as Deirdre provided words of consolation to Sandra. When the segment ended, she returned beside host Dermot O’Leary, her eyes red but resolve firm as she took a deep breath to continue. In response to the tragedy, pop star Taylor Swift broke her silence, conveying her shock in a poignant social media post: “The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously and I’m just completely in shock.” “The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders.”

The star continued: “These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.” A host of other celebs have also reacted to the tragic incident, sending their heartfelt support to the families affected by the attack. Southport’s own Adele Roberts notably took to Twitter to share her thoughts: “Thinking of everyone affected by the tragic events in Southport today. My heart is breaking for the families.” Dan Walker, who used to present BBC Breakfast, described the incident as “truly awful” as he too sent his condolences. “Thinking of all the families of the children involved. We live in strange times”, he added in a tweet. Loose Women’s Judi Love said she was “praying for the families and community of Southport”.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
