Privacy NoticeNeighbours favourite Takaya Honda, 36, has announced he is expecting a baby with his wife Amy after going through a tough fertility journey. The actor, known for playing the role as Dr David Tanaka in the Australian soap made TV history as his character wed Aaron Brennan (Matt Wilson), in the countries first ever TV same-sex wedding. The onscreen couple then went on to have daughter Isla through surrogate mother Nicolette Stone, who was played by Charlotte Chimes at the time. Takaya had been on the soap since 2016, however, his character was killed off earlier this year after a clifftop showdown with Eden Shaw (Costa D’Angelo).

In his life off screen, Takaya tied the knot with his wife Amy Schwab in November 2020, just over a year after they announced their engagement in May 2019. Now, almost four years later, the couple have announced the happy news that they’re expecting in Australian Summer 2025 after ‘years of frustration’. Taking to Instagram, they shared an adorable photo of the pair with their pet dog, as they held a baby grow with the words “and then there were four,” written across the front. “We’ve been waiting for this news for a long time, it’s been years of hoping & waiting. Years of frustration being told that we were both healthy and fine. Years of frustration being told ‘you just need to relax and it will happen’. “Sometimes it’s not up to us, sometimes it’s out of our control and the universe has different plans. Maybe it was to teach us patience or maybe to teach us that some things will never be in our control and that’s okay because things will happen when they are divinely ready,” the caption continued.

“It’s been a long journey to get here and although there were times when we felt things were never going to work we, never gave up. It’s impossible to really communicate what the last few years have been like, especially not the last year filled with so much hope then despair, belief then loss and oh so many needles.” The happy couple then went on to confirm that they had being working with an ‘amazing fertility support team’ at @womenshealthmelbourne and @lifefertilityclinicmelbourne. “Thank you for choosing us little one, we can’t wait to share our lives with you. Baby Honda due Summer 2025,” they concluded the post, before revealing pooch Mia was “very excited to be a big sister.” The post was filled with congratulations from Takaya’s co-stars, as Neighbours star Georgie Stone penned: “oh my goodness!!!! congratulations tak and amy!!!!! this is so wonderful” “I have tears!! So incredibly pleased for you both… you’re gonna be the bestest parents … overjoyed,” wrote Lucinda Cowden. “The best news of the year!!! Love you all so much,” wrote Majella Davis.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
