Privacy NoticeAmanda Abbington’s fiance Jonathan Goodwin shared a sweet post celebrating his relationship with the actress to coincide with her new play opening on Wednesday 31 July. Amanda and Jonathan became engaged just days after meeting in 2021, and in his Instagram Stories post, Jonathan shared a photo of the couple with the caption: “Nearly three years since I met my person… forever grateful.” Amanda is now appearing at the Park Theatre in London in the play When It Happens To You. She stars in the thriller as a mother desperately trying to hold her family together after a devastating event changes the course of their lives. The play is directed by Jez Bond and is written by bestselling author Tawni O’Dell and the production is due to run until 31 August. The actress is currently at the centre of a BBC investigation regarding her treatment as a celebrity contestant on Strictly Come Dancing last year, in which she was paired with professional dancer Giovanni Pernice. In an interview with Krishnan-Guru Murphy on Channel 4 about When It Happens To You, she compared her time on Strictly with her experience rehearsing the new theatre production. “This play has certainly reinforced my belief that you can be in a rehearsal room and be nurtured and looked after,” she said. “Because you start to think, ‘oh, you know, am I going mad?’ but I’m not mad, as you know, but yeah it’s been brutal and relentless and unforgiving.” Amanda has previously spoken about her experience on Strictly in an interview with The Times on Sunday 14 July. “I’ve had the worst experience. The show was tough and horrible, but the aftermath of it I was not expecting. It’s been really brutal and it just hasn’t stopped,” she said, describing the online threats she received after she came forward with complaints about Giovanni Pernice.

The Sherlock star had previously reported to the BBC that she suffered five weeks of unacceptable conduct from Giovanni during the last series of the show, which led to her exit and subsequent PTSD diagnosis. “I found Giovanni’s behaviour unnecessary, abusive, cruel and mean. I couldn’t sit back and let him do that to other people,” she disclosed to The Sun. The BBC have since launched an investigation, and also put in place new measures to make sure both celebrities and professional dancers are protected during the filming of the new series of the dance show. In response to Amanda’s allegations, Giovanni Pernice’s spokesperson said: “We would urge people to wait for the review’s conclusion and not to pay heed to these very serious and defamatory allegations that have no evidence in support of them.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
