Privacy Notice Love Island’s first ever celebrity bombshell, Joey Essex, was dumped before the Love Island finale on Monday 29 July, and he has revealed how unimpressed he was about how things played out for him in his first interview this week. Joey’s exit was brutal as a crowd of Islanders – including returning contestants who had previously left the show – rounded on him and aired their grievances about his behaviour during his time on the series. In an interview with The Sun, Joey spoke about how being put in that position with everyone criticising him to his face would have been awful for a less experienced, younger personality, and that he told bosses he wasn’t happy with how he was treated. “You’ve got to remember, I’m a human, I’ve got feelings. I’ve got heart. That was very savage and it was very, very difficult to take. It hurt a lot,” he said. Sign up to OK’s TV newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

The reality star also admitted that he was there to entertain rather than to win the competition. “I wasn’t there to ever win,” he added. “You know, if someone wants to win, they don’t do the journey I did. You go a different way about it. I was just there to entertain, find love and have a great time.” Joey and his Love Island partner Jessy Potts were dumped from the villa on Sunday 28 July, after their fellow Islanders voted them the “least compatible,” meaning the couple lost the chance of winning the show’s grand prize of £50,000. However, it seems Joey has lined up a lot of work since Love Island finished, with his team having reportedly secured him a string of £6,000 an hour meet and greets around the UK, where fans will be able to interact and party with the former TOWIE star. A source told The Sun: “Well, Joey might not have made the final but he’ll be having the last laugh! His team worked overtime while he was in the villa to book him for as many appearances in the coming months as possible. He’s well known and doesn’t often do them nowadays but Love Island’s introduced him to a new audience and he’s been snapped up by venues hoping he’ll be a big draw. It’s gruelling to be out every night but the financial reward will be huge.” Joey certainly made his presence known at the villa, both to Islanders and viewers of the show as he ended relationships with Samantha and Grace on sour notes and also had clashes with Ciaran Davies, Mimii Ngulebe and Josh Oyinson. Mimii and Josh went on to win the series.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
