Privacy Notice It’s been a great start to the Paris 2024 Olympics for Team GB, and now one Gold medal winner is set to compete on the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor. Swimmer Tom Dean is the latest rumoured addition to the BBC One dance show. The report, from insiders, comes after the star was part of the British relay team which won the 4x200m men’s freestyle on Tuesday (July 30) night. “It’s quite a coup for the producers to bag an Olympian fresh from winning gold in Paris, and swimmers have been shown to be great contestants,” a source told The Sun. “They tend to be a sensation as a result of their fitness, competitiveness and sheer determination to win — and Tom will still be pumped from his victory in France.

The source continued to say that the star “ doesn’t quite have the same profile as other top-level swimmers yet,” but adds that is likely to ‘drastically change’ after his time on the show. A spokesperson for the BBC said: “The celebrity contestants for this year will be announced in due course.” The dance show is popular with Olympic swimmers, with Adam Peaty taking part in the 2021 series. Most recently, Ellie Simmonds competed in the 2022 series, while Mark Foster competed in the 2008 series. Other athletes who have previously taken part in the show include gymnasts Louis Smith and Claudia Fragapane, plus Paralympic swimming medallist Lauren Steadman. Tom has had a successful career in the sport, taking home two golds in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the 200m freestyle and the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay. At the time, this made him the first male British swimmer to win two gold Olympic medals at the same games in 113 years. He was then made an MBE in 2022. Strictly Come Dancing have not yet revealed the line-up for the 20th series, as an announcement is expected to come shortly. However, there have been many rumours circulating online of who is set to compete, including TOWIE’s Pete Wicks. The news comes after professional dancer Graziano Di Prima was axed from the show following gross misconduct towards Zara McDermott during rehearsals, who is the girlfriend of Pete’s best friend, Sam Thompson. Giovanni Pernice has also left the show following allegations of “abusive and threatening behaviour” from former dance partner Amanda Abbington. As an internal investigation is carried out, Giovanni strongly denies any claims of wrongdoing. Other celebrities rumoured to join the 20th anniversary season include Nick Knowles, Hannah Waddingham, Pearl Mackie and former Coronation Street star Shobna Gulati.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
