Privacy Notice It’s been almost five months since Cat Deeley took the reins of This Morning with Ben Shephard and with such a big job, comes big responsibility. There’s no doubt, it’s been an up and down road for Cat who has been subject to her fair share of criticism, as well as praise on the famous sofa. Now, the presenter has headed to sunnier climates for a well-deserved family break and looked amazing snapped in swimwear pictures. And a source has told OK! that it’s very much needed for the presenter and her husband, Patrick Kielty, after a whirlwind 2024. “Cat desperately needed to escape to the sun and to get away with Patrick. People tend to think that becoming the host of a show like This Morning is the dream job everyone wants, and in many ways it is, but it comes with huge pressures and massive expectations,” said the source.

Cat, 47, is currently on a seven-week summer break from the ITV show and is spending it in France with Patrick, 53, and their two children; Milo, eight, and James, five. The presenter joined This Morning earlier this year, taking to the helm after Holly Willoughby stepped down from the role in October. Holly’s departure came after a tumultuous 12 months on the show, which saw her co-host Phillip Schofield leave ITV and admit to an ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair with a young male runner. With intense scrutiny having hit the popular daytime show, Cat and her co-host Ben weren’t stepping into the easiest shoes. The source explained, “Your every move is judged [on This Morning], and the audience can turn at the drop of a hat. There has been backlash to things she’s said or done on twitter from viewers – which happens when you’re on TV every morning. “And that’s a steep learning curve. It’s a great job, but it’s a tough job. The ratings still aren’t amazing and a lot of people have said the chemistry still really isn’t there between her and Ben.”

Cat recently came into the firing line for making a joke about seizures, something which had viewers dubbing her ‘insensitive’. During a segment on the show, Cat quipped that she was ‘having a seizure’ while dancing to Meghan Trainor’s song All About That Bass. However, the remark sparked backlash and charity The Epilepsy Society hit back by saying seizures are ‘no laughing matter.’ The following day, Cat took the opportunity to apologise during the live show, as she shared: “I just wanted to apologise to anyone who was offended yesterday when I made a light-hearted comment about my dancing style. “It really wasn’t supposed to cause any upset to anybody, but I can see why that might have been the case.” Cat and Ben have also faced a mixed reaction from the public since joining forces, with some questioning their chemistry on-screen.

Working under a public microscope no doubt has its pressures, with the source adding that while it can be difficult, Cat is focusing on family time now. She and Patrick, who tied the knot back in 2012, are both in demand when it comes to work, with the latter the host of Ireland’s The Late Late Show on RTÉ One. However, it seems the holiday has been the perfect break away, with Cat sharing an insight into her trip via social media recently – where she was seen enjoying ice creams and relaxing in the pool. “Cat has been a bit weepy, but she’s away in the sun and is switching off from all the noise and enjoying her downtime with Paddy, which is precious as these two are often apart and busy because of their demanding telly jobs,” said the source. Echoing that Patrick is her rock, they continued: “They’re having a great time, she looks amazing for a 47-year-old mum of two (Patrick loves her curves!) and they’re simply having fun in the sun together. Patrick is always super positive, he understands the ups and downs of showbiz and is a great support to Cat when the going gets tough – he’s been there for the good and the bad.”

Cat is set to return to This Morning alongside Ben on 2 September, with a rotation of hosts, including Alison Hammond, Dermot O’Leary and Josie Gibson all stepping in until then. After a two-month break, some quality time and a suntan, the source adds that Cat is hoping to have a clean slate for the tail-end of her first year on the famous This Morning sofa. They concluded, “She hopes to recharge her batteries with this trip, come back rejuvenated and reset the button with Ben. But you can’t force natural chemistry, so we will have to wait and see on that one.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
