Privacy NoticeA BBC presenter was rushed to hospital after he had a “terrible” accident at his home. Stephen Nolan missed his breakfast programme on BBC Radio Ulster on Thursday, and Chris Buckler needed to step in. The host revealed that 50-year-old Stephen had been taken to hospital and spent six hours in A&E. Speaking on the radio show, via telephone line to his radio station, Stephen said: “I was trying to move 10 boxes of tiles. “Because they don’t believe for a second that you actually do anything like physical manual labour. “You basically employ people to move things… so what have you been doing? Have you run out of men?” Sharing more details about the incident, Stephen revealed that a little “sliver of a bone” had been “broken off” as a result. The host then went on to praise the hospital staff who helped him, saying: ” “The staff were fantastic, thank you very much to all the staff up at the Ulster Hospital. It was terrifying, it really was. ” Stephen took to X to share a gruesome picture of his injuries with his followers. “Today hasn’t been good,” he posted. “Massive pile of floor tiles which are not fitted yet standing up in boxes – I under estimated their weight and pulled them towards me to open a drawer they were leaning against. “They landed on my foot as I went crashing to the floor. Not a good look and my big toe is swelling!” Sending their best wishes , one fan said: “That sounds painful, hope you’re okay (and the tiles didn’t break!).”

Another commented: “Hope you haven’t broken anything!” While a third added: “There’s always someone having a worse day.” Someone else said: “How painful it looks! I hope it will not affect your airing of the Nolan Show.'” According to reports in 2023, Stephen Nolan was the BBC’s fifth highest paid broadcaster ahead of other famous faces including Question Time host Fiona Bruce and BBC News presenter Sophie Raworth. Last yea he took home an eye-watering salary of £400,000.
