Privacy NoticeMAFS relationship expert Mel Schilling has issued a health update as she continues to battle with colon cancer. The 52-year-old star of the Channel 4 show took to her Instagram page, to reveal that she feels “absolutely shattered” as she continues her TV career alongside chemo treatment. Posting a selfie of herself frowning at the camera, she wrote: “This is me. Absolutely shattered after a big day on set. Exhausted but satisfied and ready for a huge rest. Cancer is tough but I am tougher.” The health update comes after Mel shared to her 228,000 followers that she is approaching the end of her chemo therapy. Mel posted: “Date lunch with the big guy to celebrate my impending FINAL round of chemo. Lovely day on the river, beautiful food, a sip of wine & optimism all round.”

Wishing Mel luck and offering support, one person replied: “Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous, you are doing so, so well, and I love that you are always smiling. ” Another added: “All the best for your final chemo, I’ve just finished mine and definitely do not look this good. Battered, bald and frail springs to mind. We got this no matter what shape our chemo comes in.”

While a third commented: “Keep going Mel! You are doing awesome. All the best for that last cycle.” Earlier this year, speaking exclusively with OK! Mel revealed that she was diagnosed with the disease just before Christmas last year, having noticed changes while she was filming MAFS in Australia. She said: “I just kept putting it down to travel, I knew I was run down. Last year was probably the biggest year of my career – I knew I was exhausted so I just kept saying to myself, ‘That’s all it is, I’m overtired and jet-lagged.’

“My digestive system was complaining at that point and I was starting to get cramps.” Having started HRT (hormone replacement therapy) six months before, Mel wondered if that could have been the cause of the discomfort as her body adjusted and at one point she also thought it was period pain. “I didn’t pay enough attention to it,” Mel admitted. “I think as women, we do this because we so often have pain in our abdominal area that it has become normalised.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
