Privacy NoticeJoey Essex and Jessy Potts unfortunately didn’t make it to the Love Island final but ever since they left the show, their love has continued to blossom. Joining us for our exclusive at-home shoot they revealed some of the secrets from their time in the villa. Former TOWIE star Joey, who turned 34 shortly after being voted out of the villa with Jessy last week, told OK! in an exclusive chat they had a secret code to communicate with each other behind the producer’s back. “We got in trouble a lot for speculating as to what was going to happen day to day,” Jessy said. “We’d talk about it a lot and would get told off.” Joey added: “You were the main speculator! And you’d get in trouble all the time for talking to me when you weren’t allowed to. We’d try and look at the producers’ phones to guess the real time. We figured out that there was a pattern between the clocks on our little Pixel phones and theirs, so we’d work out the difference to figure out the real time. Oh, and Jessy would use code language, too.”

Jessy reveals that ‘Nandos’ was their code word. “We’d use it in a few different scenarios.” “For instance,” Joey said. “If you wanted to do something unexpected or big but didn’t want to say it out loud, you’d say something like, “I’m going to go for the full chicken.” It worked like a dream!” Indeed, since finishing fifth on the ITV show, Joey has already come under fire from viewers for “faking” his feelings for Jessy and getting preferential treatment in the villa. He admitted last week that, “I was put in a situation where I had to do what I had to do. I’m there for a reason. I was in Love Island to entertain.” He was also accused by some fans of gaslighting, and displaying other “red flag” behaviour.
Joey admits that Jessy was the one that got them in trouble
But the Essex native said that categorically wasn’t the case. “Listen, if that was special treatment – with the journey that I’d been on – I’d love to know what the worst treatment was!” He continued: “If anyone focused on just me and Jessy as a couple, and not all the other drama, you’d see we were very genuine in the villa. From the minute I met Jessy, I never looked any other way. There were no red flags with each other. We were tested the most out of everyone, but we came through it.” To show fans their love is indeed real, in the pair’s first social media post since leaving the villa, they revealed to followers that the loved-up pair are still going strong.
The pair announced they are exclusive but have yet to say the “L” word
The TV personality posted a smitten picture of the duo blissfully looking into each other’s eyes as they held hands while posing in front of a pool on the sunny island of Mallorca, where the show is filmed, captioning the snap: “exclusive era,” followed by a red flaming heart emoji. It comes as the the Love Island final saw Mimii and Josh become the first Black couple to clinch the crown on Love Island UK. After a nail-biting final, they triumphed over charming Welsh pair Nicole Samuel and Ciaran Davies.
