Privacy NoticeEmma Willis reckons she would still have fallen for hubby Matt, even if she had never seen what he looked like. However, she has also confessed that there is one thing which might send her running a mile from her husband of 16 years. Emma’s confessions come as she and Matt have teamed up to present Love is Blind, Netflix’s new dating show where couples only hear each other’s voices before coupling up. Emma says she’s sure that Matt could charm her with his voice alone. “He’s very charismatic and he’s quite funny,” she says. “Okay, he’s very funny.” However, had they taken part in the show together, there is something Matt could do that might have brought on the opposite reaction from Emma. Love Is Blind has already been a hit worldwide for Netflix. The show sees a group of 30 single men and women have blind dates that take place in soundproofed pods where the couples can’t see each other, they can only talk to each other to find out if they are compatible. If a couple falls in love, the next step is for them to get engaged and finally meet in real life, before heading to the outside world to test whether their relationship will survive, and to discover if love really can be blind. Matt, 41, and Emma, 48, tried out the pods themselves when they were invited to host the show. “Me and Emma went into the pods for a short time to film a clip and I understood it, there’s no sound and you’re cut off,” Matt explains. “You can’t see any cameras and you’re just in this warm bubble,” Emma adds. “You just hear this voice, and luckily I love that voice that I heard so that was quite nice, but I can imagine how you would fall in love with a voice because you are in there sometimes for all day and all night together, so it’s beautiful,” says Matt.

Emma is sure that had she met Matt on the show in that way, she would definitely have been attracted to him. “I would have totally gone for it,” she says. “Because he’s very charming, very charismatic and he’s quite funny. Okay, he’s very funny.” In the series, some of the male daters show their sensitive sides by declaring their love with raps or poems which is often cringey to watch but seems to delight their blind dates on the other side of the screen. But while Matt is a fan, Emma’s not keen. “I was quite surprised because men don’t usually do things like that but these are declarations of love and it’s quite sweet, really,” says Matt. “I wouldn’t have written a poem for Emma though!” “I’d have said, ‘Don’t you f*****g dare! Stop whatever you are doing right now,’” she laughs. “I’d have been so embarrassed. You watch it behind your hands but it is really sweet and you forgive it even though it’s awful.” The series was filmed last summer, so Emma and Matt already know which couples split up after they spent time together in real life beyond the pods, and which ones are still together today. “It’s been proven in the other series of Love Is Blind around the world, we’ve got marriages, we’ve got kids, so it definitely does work, and we’ve watched love happen,” says Matt. “I can’t give much away but it’s incredible when you see the successes.” While Matt found that all his early predictions about the singletons were wrong (“no one I teamed up got together, I was terrible”), Emma fancies herself as something of a matchmaker and isn’t afraid of setting up her friends in real life, either. “I always set up my friends,” she says. “I don’t really have many single friends now but I am always on the lookout for my friends that are single, I love matchmaking. I’m much better on the show that I am in real life. I want to see people who want to settle down and to meet someone, I want to see them succeed and be happy.”

Emma believes one of the reasons the show is such a success worldwide is that people have had enough of online dating where everyone is judged by their appearance. “I think people are just sick of the dating world, so why not do this as it sucks the other way.” “Or they’ve been unsuccessful with it,” adds Matt. “They’ve been burned by it so they come to the show with a real openness to explore this experiment.” “I think it’s really good for British men to watch it because these men are vulnerable and they talk about stuff. They are able to be emotional and talk about things and I think that is really great to see.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
