Privacy NoticeBefore his comedy career took off, comedian Nick Page was actually a familiar face on BBC’s Escape to the Country, where he shared his property expertise for three series starting in 2002. Eagle-eyed viewers at home were quick to spot the former estate agent on Britain’s Got Talent back in 2018 and flocked to X at the time, to share their recognition. “He was a presenter on Escape to The Country. Estate Agent,” one viewer tweeted. Another chimed in: “He was a BBC presenter for escape to the country. Didn’t mention this on the vt did they,” as a third viewer said: “Nick Page from escape to the country? #BritainsGotTalent.”

Nick has been open about his past before stepping into the spotlight. Chatting with The Sun, he confessed: “I had a brief stint on daytime telly and I was rubbish at it. I’d started doing comedy and was going for castings and because I was still working as an estate agent. Then I went for a screen test for this new show Escape To The Country.” His journey hasn’t been without its bumps; in 2005, he faced conviction for mortgage fraud and was sentenced to 200 hours of community service. Reflecting on the experience, he said: “I was really really stupid and I got prosecuted for mortgage fraud. I did community service and I was very lucky not to go to prison.”

Despite his controversial past, Nick managed to keep his cool under pressure from the audience during his BGT audition. While sharing a laugh about past relationships, Nick was interrupted by a heckler. From the audience, a voice rang out: “Get off the stage!” A hush fell over the crowd, but Nick quickly retorted with a witty comeback. “It’s nice that all my ex-wives and fiancees have made the effort to buy tickets,” he quipped. The judges commended him for his cool response and unanimously sent him through to the next round with four yeses.
David Walliams and Alesha Dixon were impressed with Nick’s performance
Nick won Chortle’s English Comedian of the Year in 2017 after some years performing for British troop in Afghanistan, and a year later made a return to TV screens when he competed in the 12th series of Britain’s Got Talent. He made it all the way to the semi finals of the hit show, but narrowly missed out on clinching the win to another comedian, Lost Voice Guy. More recently, he has stepped in to replace comedian Andrew Lawrence who had various appearances cancelled after a racist tweet aimed at Marcus Rashford appeared on his social media account following England’s defeat to Italy in the Euro 2020 final. Nick has since hit out at stand up comedians who “pander to the racists for business”, stating: “There are so many ways to be funny, you shouldn’t have to rely on any bullying or prejudice.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
