Privacy NoticeMaya Jama just made our hearts melt with an adorable snap of youthful-looking mum, Sadie. The 29 year old telly star, who’s been on our screens hosting Love Island, which just finished on ITV with Mimii and Josh winning the show, took to Instagram to post the pic of her mum relaxing outside. Fans did a double-take as Maya is a dead-ringer for Sadie – perhaps no surprise, as Sadie was a teen mum at 18 when she had Maya and could pass as her sister. Maya once cheekily highlighted her mum’s celebrity moment, saying: “I know. Literally the bane of my childhood.”

Bitter Love Island feud spills into real life – as pair clash at event amid ‘9-5 job’ jibe

The family hails from Bristol, mixing Swedish vibes from Sadie and Somali heritage from their dad Hussein, whom Maya has been estranged from since she was 12. Hussein has had a turbulent past with multiple prison stints and last saw his daughter in 2017 during the filming of a documentary titled When Dads Kill: Murderer in the Family. Despite her father’s absence, Maya maintains a close bond with her mum and brother. She sadly recently split from rapper Stormzy, 31, after their rekindled their relationship. The pair first crossed paths in 2014, at the start of their respective careers, and seemed to be a perfect match. They split in 2019 and Maya got engaged to American basketball player Ben Simmons in 2021. The engagement was called off nine months later due to their busy schedules, causing a stir among fans. But, much to the delight of fans, Stormzy and Maya got back together – although it looks like things weren’t meant to be. Posting about her split two weeks ago, Maya said: “Hey guys, We’ve been laughing whilst drafting this because we never, ever, in a million years thought we’d be the couple announcing a breakup, but for the sake of clarity and, more importantly, to allow us the space and grace that’s needed for us both to be able to navigate this next bit of our lives with peace, we thought it might be best to.

“We fell madly in love in 2014, broke up in 2019, and then spent five years manoeuvring life apart. We decided to try for the final time in August 2023, and we’ve spent this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits. We were 21 and 20 when we first met-both at the beginning of our careers-and spent five years growing together and then five years growing separately, so this final attempt required a whole lot of figuring out, relearning, and unlearning. We tried, and it didn’t work, and that’s okay. “We still think the absolute world of each other, we still care and respect each other, we are still grateful for the time we’ve had together, and we are still friends and will always be friends (so if you see us having a lil catch-up at The Brits or something, don’t cause a fuss, we are dawgs!). “Announcing this feels so dramatic, but we’re doing it so that it kind of takes away the drama and avoids speculation and rumours. We’re kindly asking for the grace to let both of us keep it moving and not be bothered about it (we highly doubt this’ll work, but we’re still kindly asking anyway 0). She ended the statement: “Love you guys and thank you for all the love you’ve showered us with, it’s been beautiful!
