Privacy NoticeFormer EastEnders star Sid Owen has landed a new role – and it’s proving to be quite a hit with fans. The 52-year-old actor, who is best known for playing grease monkey Ricky Butcher in the soap, portrays a tough London gangster in a new music video by Yours. There’s even another TV connection with the song- as the band features a former TOWIE cast member. The four-piece group is made up of Maverick Sabre, New Machine, Jake Hall and Sonny Hall. Jake was on the ITVBe reality show for four series from 2015. In the video, for their single Love Might Make Me Better, Sid can be seen dressed in a leather jacket and shades. He menacingly threatens each of member of the group, who are all tied to chairs, with a cricket bat before dousing them in petrol.

Sid’s character appears to be looking for payback as the result of a heist gone wrong. The soap veteran loved being a part of it, commenting on the video with a fire emoji and the words, “Great video guys.” And Jake paid his respects to Sid, posting: “@sidowen thank you sid lovely working with you top man.” Fans also lapped up the video. “This is sick,” said one. While another raved, “Bringing back the funkiness.” Yours formed last year and quickly landed a deal with Defected Records. Since he left Towie, Jake has gone on to launch a successful career in fashion, with both David Beckham and Mike Tyson wearing his By Jake Hall designs. Sid was last seen on our screens last January, when a return as Ricky to EastEnders ended after he the character reported his bad girl sister, Janine, to police.

Sid was 16 when he landed a role on EastEnders, which he has continued to play on and off ever since. Ricky was one of the soap’s leading characters for several years, and his marriage to fiery Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer, is among the soap’s most fondly-remembered romances. He credits the soap with saving him from a potential life of crime saying: “I grew up on a massive council estate. All my family, friend and neighbours were involved in crime. That was all I knew.” “I grew up as a petty thief. I did that because my three older brothers were doing it. It stems from where you grow up and your background and being on the poverty line. And I lost my mum at six… my dad was in prison. So, I could have easily lost the plot. I could have easily gone down the wrong path.” Other screen appearances include ITV prison drama Bad Girls as Donny Kimber and a guest role in The Bill. He had his own stab at pop stardom in 2000, when his single Good Thing Going reached no.14 in the charts.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
