Privacy NoticeCoronation Street’s Bruce Jones, who played the unforgettable character Les Battersby, has expressed his disappointment over his character reportedly being killed off. The 71 year old actor, who brought life to the larger-than-life character from 1997 to 2007, was allegedly informed of Les’s demise via email. In 2007, Bruce was caught on camera insulting fans and revealing secret plot lines during a night out, leading to his suspension and eventual departure from the show. Now, upon learning about his character’s death, Bruce has voiced his frustration, claiming that despite fans wanting him back on the show, the bosses are turning a deaf ear.

“[Show bosses] already emailed me a over a fortnight ago to tell me what was happening,” he told MailOnline. “I actually thought, well fine, I played him for ten years. It gives me closure. Maybe it will stop people asking me all the time when I’m going back, if I’m going back.” He added: “People want me back, but it’ll stop all that, in shopping centres, wherever I go. I’m pleased it’s happening but I’m also sad about losing a character I played for ten years. I’m grateful to the street for that,” reports the Mirror. When asked if he held any resentment towards show bosses over their decision, he replied: “No, none whatsoever. They gave me ten years and I invented a great character and it became a great hit with everyone. I wish them all the luck in the world. I felt relieved, then I felt sadness, then I thought, ‘well, where would he go?'” Sign up to OK’s TV newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

He said: “If he went back, where would he go? How would he get back, what would he do? Where would the storylines take him? I don’t think they could really do that much with him, which is a shame.” Speaking about fan reaction to news of his character’s death, Bruce was quick to add that some will see it as a natural evolution of the show, while others will be “upset.” He also added that he doesn’t tune into the show anymore as he’s more inclined to dive into “good documentaries” and enjoys reading even more. Following reports that Les will be killed off on Coronation Street, fans have expressed their disappointment. “#Corrie are killing off Les Battersby..,” wrote one alongside a GIF of a person in shock. “I know Bruce told me a couple of months ago after receiving an email,” another replied.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
