Privacy NoticeStrictly Come Dancing’s Katya Jones has dropped a subtle yet powerful message on Instagram following Wynne Evans being chastised for seemingly harmlessly placing his hand on her waist. The dance queen took to her Insta stories, where she reshared an impactful quote from the All On The Board Instagram account known for its thought-provoking posts. It declared: “Cruel and negative comments can affect somebody’s life and their state of mind. Everyone has an opinion, but, one thing we should agree on is that it’s always best to BE KIND.” Katya’s Instagram move was in response to an incident with her Strictly co-dancer Wynne Evans on last Saturday’s live show.

Known for his Go Compare opera ads, Wynne put his hand on Katya’s waist, which she immediately shifted away during the broadcast. Soon after the episode, both clarified on social media that the act was an “inside” joke and not meant to be taken to heart. Nevertheless, despite their clarification, the viewers weren’t satisfied at the time, leading Wynne to confront the issue again on a radio programme. He issued an apology and said he was “heartbroken” over the extent of the misinterpretation as their relationship held no ill intentions. Women’s Aid has made a strong statement following the widespread attention garnered by a controversial clip, reinforcing that “Inappropriate behaviour towards women is no joke. They said: “With an epidemic of misogyny and violence against women and girls in the UK, we need a media culture where women feel safe to speak up, where sexually inappropriate conduct is not trivialised or joked about.” The charity emphasised: “It’s important we challenge inappropriate ‘jokes’ so we don’t continue normalising toxic attitudes that cultivate these forms of gender-based abuse.”

On’It Takes Two, the Strictly Come Dancing spin-off, Katya Jones and her dance partner Wynne addressed the incident. Katya insisted: “I actually can’t bear sitting here watching this man being portrayed as someone he’s not and in fact it couldn’t be further away from the truth. “. She continued, clarifying the incident: “I have to make this absolutely clear that this whole incident with the hand and the high five on Saturday night, it was an inside joke between Wynne and I. Was it a silly joke? Yes. Was it a bad joke? Yes.” Katya spoke about their previous performance of a Tango to ABBA’s hit Money Money Money, which she praised Wynne for elevating to a “whole new level”. They’re set to dazzle once more with a lively Quickstep to Electric Light Orchestra’s ‘Mr. Blue Sky’ in the upcoming weekend competition.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
