Privacy NoticeThe latest signing to this year’s Strictly Come Dancing line-up is proving controversial as show producers appear to have broken what is believed to be a long-standing ‘rule’ . Former Love Island star Tasha Ghouri was revealed as the latest celebrity name to be joining the 2024 series on Wednesday, August 7. She is the ex of scandal-hit dancer Giovanni Pernice, who parted ways with the series earlier this year following accusations over his behaviour in the rehearsal room. However, it seems the show may have broken one of its own rules with the addition of the former Love Islander to this year’s line-up. It’s long been thought that the show avoids reality stars from series like The Only Way is Essex and Love Island as contestants on the show. Last year, Good Morning Britain showbiz reporter Scarlette Douglas raised the point when it was rumoured that another Love Islander, Zara McDermott, was joining show. “Strictly is breaking their own rules,” the TV expert said. “Strictly used to have a ban on ‘structured reality’ stars.” She added: “It seems Strictly bosses have taken a leaf out of Dancing On Ice’s book which has already had a variety of Love Island stars.” Long-time judge Craig Revel Horwood also previously addressed the issue when he spoke of the possibly of TOWIE’s Gemma Collins on the show. He described such celebs as “low rent”. The Strictly judge said: “Gemma Collins would be fun on the show but it’s not very often that we have reality stars take to the ballroom. “We generally have people of a higher calibre than that.” In recent years, however, Strictly has welcomed Made in Chelsea’s Jamie Laing and TOWIE alumni Mark Wright to the dance floor.
Johannes and Tasha have a bit of history
Meanwhile, Tasha spoke about joining the show on the KISS Breakfast on Wednesday after she was announced as one of the 2024 contestants. “I feel nervous, excited, like I’m about to throw up. It didn’t feel real until I was here now, but I’m so gassed, I’m so excited.” She then added: “I do have a dream of who I would love to be with, I’ve not even met them yet. It would be Jojo [Johannes Radebe], I would love to work with him.” Johannes and Tasha were pictured dancing earlier this year at an event attended by Queen Camilla. While the star has previous dance experience, she was keen to downplay that part of her past, saying: “I’ve not danced in quite a few years now, since Love Island my career is very different. It’s a very different dance style – I may not be good at it. I’m excited for the challenge.” OK! has approached the BBC for comment.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
