Privacy Notice Dating show Love Is Blind UK has arrived on Netflix and a whole bunch of singletons are getting ready to find their future husband or wife – without actually meeting them face-to-face. The UK version of Love Is Blind is hosted by Emma Willis and her husband, Matt, who navigate the hopeful romantics through the pod-based dating adventure that’s taken Netflix by storm. The show’s unique format has singles date unseen, leading to proposals and real-time romance before they reach the altar to either commit, or call it quits. The series will see the couples getting to know each other inside the famous pods, before meeting when they first get engaged. They are then whisked away to a retreat in Corfu, where Matt previously said you could tell some of the couples were “head over heels for each other”.

After heading back to the UK, couples spend time embedding into each other’s lives before heading to the altar. Here’s some juicy behind the scenes secrets including the real divorces, ‘cold feet’ and the cooling-off period… Engagement rings Chris Coelen – who created and produced Love Is Blind – told Variety that when it comes to rings, male contestants are given a choice of “10 or 12 different styles and colours”. When Jackie from season four of the US show decided to keep her ring, despite breaking off her engagement with Marshall, she wrote on her Instagram: “As for the ring, Marshall did not pay for the ring, Love Is Blind paid for all the rings.” However, some contestants choose to bring rings with them to the pods that have been passed down from their families, such as season two’s Kyle on the US show, who gave Shaina his mother’s engagement ring which had sentimental meaning to him.

How long do they have? The contestants only have 10 days to find their future partner in the pods. Usually, these dates last around 15 minutes at a time. However, when sparks do start flying, dates can range from around three to four hours. Typically the contestants have around 20 dates during their time in the pods. Speaking with Netflix Tudum, creator Chris previously described the period as “10 days of 24/7 intensive therapy”. “They’re trying to identify every single thing that might be important to talk about before they choose to marry someone,” he added.

Cooling-off There is also a lengthy period between when the show is filmed and when it actually airs. Speaking on his YouTube channel about the show, US contestant Cameron Hamilton previously said viewers regularly came up to his parents to ask: “Are you worried that Lauren is going to say no [to his proposal]?” He added: “But they were already at the wedding a year and a half ago when it was filmed.” In order to focus solely on their relationships and to stop anyone contacting the outside world, phones are also taken away from contestants. WiFi and TV are also off limits, though contestants are allowed to read books.

After filming is wrapped, they all seem to keep their relationship status private online until the show is completely aired. Chris told the LA Times that there isn’t a mandate in place prohibiting them from posting their relationship status however, they are suggested to hold off from sharing clues with the public. “People are going to do what they’re going to do. But I think generally people buy into the idea that this is something that they do not want to spoil for the audience,” he said.

Soundproof pods In order to get to know each other in a private and romantic setting, the pods are purposely soundproof. “Even if you’re yelling in one pod, you can’t hear it in another,” Chris told Netflix Tudum. He added, “They’re also each fitted with a glass roof and are tall enough — about 40 feet high — that contestants can look up and daydream.” Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, creator Chris also admitted that one date once lasted between three and four hours. “They just wanted to be in the pods and spend as much time as they possibly could in there,” he said. “Sometimes people would even fall asleep in the pods.”

Real divorces The weddings on Love is Blind are real so if they break up they would have to get a divorce. Chris told Bustle, “If they choose to get married, yes, it’s a legally binding marriage.” Chris also shared that the show isn’t scripted, and he admitted before the first season he was worried that would-be love birds would get cold feet. He told Entertainment Weekly : “As a producer, I was kind of nervous, like, is anybody actually gonna get engaged? Is anyone going to make it to the altar?” Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
