The hit dance show has been teasing fans for the last week with the gradual unveiling of this year’s contestants, who include a mix of Olympians, an EastEnders icon, a funny man, and a Love Island favourite. Fans tuned into The One Show on Monday where hosts Alex Jones and Lauren Laverne announced the last trio of celebs set to complete this year’s line-up. The first of the final three to be announced was DIY SOS host Nick Knowles. With appearances on shows like Break The Safe and Who Dares Wins, Nick is no stranger to our TV screens, but he surprised viewers of The One Show by revealing that despite his sisters being professional dancers, they find his Strictly stint “hilarious”.

Second up was footballing legend and commentator Paul Merson, 56, who said he wasn’t worrying yet about taking part but expected to be nervous when the series starts. “I don’t like lying,” he laughed when Alex asked him if it felt good that the news was now out. He also admitted that he had only really danced at his wedding in the past but he was going to give it “100 per cent”. He said he would be taking it week by week. “It won’t be for a lack of trying – I’ll give it my all.”

Olympic hockey champion Sam Quek, 35, was the final star to be revealed – and she was also relieved that she’d no longer have to lie to loved ones about her upcoming appearance. The sportswoman admitted she was competitive and said getting to the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom would be a “dream” for her. Sam won gold in the 2016 Olympics in Rio as part of the British team.
