Privacy Notice Pro dancer AJ Pritchard opened up about some of the cheeky behind-the-scenes tricks he used to try and outshine other couples during the Strictly Come Dancing live shows. AJ, who was a professional dancer on the popular BBC dance show between 2016 and 2019, revealed all his little secrets he would use during an exclusive interview with OK! in 2022. The dancer has since left Strictly to pursue other TV opportunities but reportedly still watches every series. The star explained the cheeky techniques he used to get the crowds cheering and the judges impressed before ever being shown live on TV.

He admitted that he sneakily would use the VT time to hype the audience up, appearing to give the illusion to fans at home that they were particular favourites as they walked on to the stage. He said: “Plus, just before we go live, you’ll have the floor manager going “four, three, two one,” and pointed at you so you know you’re live. But just before that I would literally make the audience scream and get really loud, go a bit crazy so that it sounds like they’re excited for us – even if that’s a bit of peer pressure technique. But it always works, so I always did it.”

The star explained that he would always get the crowds cheering and the judges impressed before they’d even be shown on TV – to outshine other contestants. He said: “I think one of the secrets – I wouldn’t want to say this is a secret – but more this is something you probably haven’t thought about… So when you do the show Strictly, obviously we know it is live TV. Good, bad, different – if something goes wrong, we see it. If it goes good, we see it.” However, away from Strictly, it seems it’s ‘once bitten, twice shy’ for ex-pro AJ as he confirmed that he’s done with acting after trying it following his stint on the dance competition. The 29-year-old joined his big brother Curtis Pritchard, who was also a dancer, for a nine episodes on Hollyoaks in 2021 but it seems that once was quite enough for the star.

The sibling pair starred as dancer brothers Marco and Jacob but their appearance was marred by criticism from various soap actors who were adamant that casting should be selected based on talent and not social media followers. Luckily, AJ walked away from the slating unscathed, insisting that he “enjoyed” his experience on set but it’s just not for him. The star, who also enjoyed time in the jungle as an I’m a Celeb contestant, has plenty of other plans in the pipeline and opportunities to keep him busy. Focusing on “being fit, healthy and positive” he admitted he’s spending more time building his YouTube content, and launching a new business.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
