Privacy NoticeSir Chris Hoy shocked fans this weekend when he revealed he was suffering from terminal cancer and given just two to four years to live. And now, the Olympian has revealed the earth-shattering news is even worse, as his wife has also been diagnosed with MS. While Chris, 48, had shared his diagnosis in February, it wasn’t until this weekend he revealed it was a terminal illness. “And just like that, I learn how I will die,” Chris writes in his new book. Elsewhere in his book, Chris shares that his wife Sarra was then given the diagnosis of an ‘aggressive’ form of MS after her GP ordered a scan to investigate a tingling sensation in her tongue and face.

In an extract of his new book shared with The Times. Chris writes: “Another scan just before Christmas confirmed that Sarra had “very active and aggressive” MS and needed urgent treatment. “It’s the closest I’ve come to, like, you know, why me? Just, what? What’s going on here? It didn’t seem real. It was such a huge blow, when you’re already reeling. You think nothing could possibly get worse. You literally feel like you’re at rock bottom, and you find out, oh no, you’ve got further to fall. It was brutal,” said Chris. Sarra and Chris share two children Callum, 10, and Chloe, seven. And while the couple told the children of Chris’ diagnosis quickly, they have yet to share Sarra’s. Chris admitted there are “certain things you don’t need to tell them straight away”.

He shared how he explained his situation to his children, telling them that no one lives forever but he hopes to “be here for many, many more years”. The athlete started chemotherapy in November, enduring the severe discomfort of a cold cap to retain his hair. The athlete experienced a severe allergic reaction during the tough chemo sessions – but only took five days off from bike training. He has now penned a heart-wrenching memoir chronicling his journey with terminal cancer. Chris – who was a pundit for the BBC covering the Paris 2024 Olympics in the summer- has been married to Sarra since 2010, with the couple meeting two years prior. The athlete has won six Olympic gold medals, 11 world championships and 34 World Cup titles during his career in cycling, retiring from competitive racing in 2013.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
