‘I get so many compliments on this £29 fragrance – I buy it for all my friends’

Flashback to 2000, in Pitsea, Essex, where the infamous ‘dandruff’ flowerbed incident took place. Alan Titchmarsh, usually the epitome of calm, was riled up by Tommy after a mishap involving sawdust scattered across the soil. Tommy, ever the perfectionist, shared his side of the story with Radio Times, saying: “Call me picky if you like but I like my Ground Force gardens to be pristine when we finish them. I do not get a thrill from seeing them covered in dandruff.” Despite butting heads initially, Tommy admits he and his colleague got over their spat. Sharing insights on the choppy period, Tommy disclosed there were “hariy” moments but that they “kissed and made up”.

Courageously opening up about his health scare, Tommy Walsh divulged that he wasn’t aware men could get breast cancer until he discovered two lumps in 2002. With relatives having battled the disease, he didn’t brush it off and consulted a doctor, ending up being referred to a specialist at Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel where his sister had previously undergone surgery at just 31. In a heartfelt chat with the Mirror back in 2013, Tommy explained: “I just buried myself in my work and then went along for the day surgery where the lumps were removed under a general anaesthetic. It was only then that it sort of hit me that this could actually be serious and I could have breast cancer, like my relatives.” Opening up about his struggle with health scares, including benign lumps and a later cancerous lump in his throat, TV star Tommy Walsh has been vocal as part of an NHS cancer awareness drive in 2022, underscoring the vital need for quick medical intervention. He opened up about his health scare, sharing: “I went to my GP about an unrelated issue and while I was there, he discovered this lump in my throat that he was a bit concerned about. He said it may be nothing but that he would rather I went and got it checked and, unfortunately, it turned out to be cancerous.”

Tommy also said: “I had to go in straight away and have surgery to remove it. I am now fully recovered and even back playing football! If something in your body doesn’t feel right contact your GP practice and book an appointment. Whatever the result, the NHS is here to help.” However a heartbreaking update earlier this year, Tommy shared with The Mirror that his cancer had returned again but that he was confident in his new treatment.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
