Privacy NoticeHollyoaks actor Charlie Behan has reportedly quit the E4 soap after more than a decade on screen. The star plays Charlie Dean, the son of Becca Dean, and is said to have already wrapped filming his final scenes after 13 years. This comes after a cull of 20 actors have been axed following a shake-up to the soap. According to The Sun a source said: “Charlie’s leaving is a big decision but it’s time for him to spread his wings. There are big changes at Hollyoaks and he’s going to miss everyone there but he’s excited for the future.” A Hollyoaks rep declined to comment.

Over the last 13 years, Charlie has been part of major storylines including being taken in by his aunt Nancy Osborne (Jess Fox), after the death of his mum, Becca Dean (Ali Bastian). The character also suffered from leukaemia, subject to a custody battle and took part in county lines drug dealing. He was also witness to the fatal stabbing of Jordan Price (Connor Calland) when he attempted to kill him and Ella Richardson (Erin Palmer).

Charlie Behan has been in the soap since he was seven years old

This comes after the news that Charlie’s co-star Ela-May Demircan is also alleged to be leaving the soap after 13 years. Jamie Lomas (Warren Fox) has left the show, along with Richard Blackwood (Felix Westwood) and Ross Adams (Scott Drinkwell) will all be leaving the show. Stephanie Waring (Cindy Cunningham) who has been on the show for 28 years announced her heartbreak over her departure. She announced: “I am heartbroken to announce that my character of Cindy has been included in the actors reduction of Hollyoaks. As an actress obviously I understand there are no jobs for life but with my 28 years on the show I hoped that Cindy would survive the exciting revamp and continue into its new era, especially as I began playing her in 1996, making me the only original cast member remaining to be included in the cast cull, which I can only describe as gutting.”

The schedule of Hollyoaks is set to change in less than a month and the new format will begin with a dramatic year-long time jump and the exodus of over 20 cast members. The time-jump will provide a reason for why several families have moved away from the village. During the second week of September, the series will air just three episodes a week and will be available on streaming, E4 and YouTube.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
