Privacy NoticeCoronation Street viewers are all echoing the same sentiment after this week’s jaw-dropping plot twist. Joel Deering, portrayed by Calum Lill, was finally unmasked as the evil mastermind behind Lauren Bolton’s (played by Cait Fitton) vanishing act. Joel, who initially appeared to be a nice chap, has since revealed his true nature as a manipulative and abusive character. He lured Lauren into a sexual relationship under the guise of helping her with bills, before launching a brutal attack on her during a heated row, leaving her for dead. Adding to the drama, he is the father of her newborn baby and recently attempted to murder her by drugging her in a bid to kill their unborn child. However, his plan went awry when she gave birth prematurely and the baby survived.

Despite believing he had evaded justice, the truth about his wicked deeds came to light this week. His fiancée Dee-Dee Bailey (played by Channique Sterling-Brown) discovered that Joel was the one who assaulted Lauren, recognising his true identity as an abuser and groomer, according to the Express. As Lauren spilled the beans to Dee-Dee, Joel eavesdropped on their chat and made a beeline for the police station, weaving a web of lies about Lauren. He confessed to having a sexual relationship with the teenager but then falsely alleged that Lauren had procured illegal abortion pills to end the pregnancy.

In a dramatic twist at the police station, viewers saw Joel in handcuffs while Lauren was escorted away by DS Swain (played by Vicky Myers) for further questioning. Following a tense episode, Coronation Street fans are calling out to the soap’s writers, demanding that Joel faces the music and gets sent down for his crimes. On Twitter, one upset fan didn’t mince words, saying: “If Joel talks his way out of this, I’ll never watch #Corrie again.” Another viewer chimed in with a sense of urgency: “I can’t deal with any injustice before justice prevails. It’s taking me back to Kirsty with Tyrone and that was too stressful. Take Joel down now!”.

And a third viewer is already looking ahead, stating: “Can we fast forward to the episode where Joel goes to prison.” In tomorrow’s episode (Friday 23 August), Dee-Dee will summon Emily (Ellena Vincent) to the solicitors.
