Privacy NoticeThe BBC drama Sherwood, centred around Nottingham’s former mining community turned hotbed of gang conflict and political distress, is back for its gripping second season. After being off our screens for over two years, Sherwood returned on Sunday, August 25, at 9pm on BBC One. There was a reunion with familiar faces and the introduction of some intriguing, possibly dangerous newcomers. Ahead of the second episode airing tonight (Monday 26 August), here’s OK!’s recap of Sherwood’s cast of the second season… Ian St Clair – David Morrissey David Morrissey makes a comeback as Ian St Clair, who, after hanging up his detective hat, has become the local “anti-violence tsar”, bracing himself for tough trials ahead after a fatal attack rocks the community. David’s impressive acting repertoire includes roles in The Walking Dead, The Other Boleyn Girl, and Britannia, not to mention his work in The Long Shadow, and obviously, Sherwood’s first run.

Julie Jackson – Lesley Manville Lesley Manville returns as Julie Jackson, now a widow after her husband Gary’s (Alun Armstrong) demise in the previous season. Lesley is renowned for her portrayal as Princess Margaret in The Crown’s fifth and sixth seasons, Cynthia in Back To Black, the Amy Winehouse biopic, and as Robina Chase in World On Fire. Ryan Bottomley – Oliver Huntingdon Oliver Huntingdon steps back into the shoes of Ryan Bottomley, the drug-dealing character ensnared in one of the season’s critical storylines following a “deadly attack” that imperils his family. Oliver Huntingdon, who’s been in everything from The Rising to Happy Valley, not to mention a role in The End Of The F***ing World and Silent Witness, is making waves in showbiz.

Lorraine’s recent hits include After The Flood, Bridgerton, I Hate Suzie, and Extraordinary. Mickey Sparrow – Philip Jackson Stepping into Mickey Sparrow’s shoes, actor Philip Jackson plays Daphne’s other half with an illustrious career behind him. He’s best known for roles like Chief Inspector Japp in Agatha Christie’s Poirot, Abbot Hugo in Robin of Sherwood, and Melvin “Dylan” Bottomley in Porridge.

Ronan Sparrow – Bill Jones Playing Ronan Sparrow, one son of Daphne and Mickey facing his own challenges, is Bill Jones. With a solid suite of appearances in shows such as Sherwood season one, Doctors, The Village, and Casualty, Bill’s portfolio, though compact, packs a punch. Rory Sparrow – Perry Fitzpatrick As Rory Sparrow, brother to Ronan and no stranger to drama himself, Perry Fitzpatrick brings his unique flavour to the role. Perry’s career boasts parts like Flip in This Is England ’86 and ’90 and DS Chris Lomax in Line Of Duty. Ann Branson – Monica Dolan Actress Monica Dolan is set to stir things up as Ann Branson, bringing her wealth of experience from roles in W1A, Inside No. 9, Mr Bates vs The Post Office, Black Mirror and The Change.

Pam Bottomley – Sharlene Whyte Sharlene Whyte, known for her role as Jenny Edwards in The Story of Tracy Beaker and appearances in shows like We Hunt Together and Lockwood and Co. , will be stepping into the shoes of Pam Bottomley, Ryan’s step-mum who finds herself in a tricky situation due to his actions. Dennis Bottomley – David Harewood David Harewood, best known for his role as CIA Counterterrorism Director David Estes in Homeland, will be playing the part of Pam’s supportive brother, Dennis Bottomley.

The star-studded cast also includes Adam Hugill as Scott Rowley, with Stephen Dillane, Robert Lindsay, and Robert Emms also featuring.
