Privacy Notice Dianne Buswell was full of support for her close pal Amy Dowden as they sat down together to watch her emotional documentary about her battle with breast cancer. The Strictly Come Dancing professional, who was a bridesmaid at Amy’s wedding, said she was ‘so proud’ of the Welsh dancer and labelled her ‘brave’ for openly sharing her journey. Amy, now 34, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in May 2023 and in a bid to raise awareness allowed cameras to follow her journey. Almost a year after her diagnosis, on Monday, 26 August, her new documentary, Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me was aired on BBC One, sharing with viewers everything from her initial diagnosis, follow-up appointments to surgery.

After admitting she was feeling ‘extremely nervous’ ahead of the hour-long BBC show, Amy was fully supported by her Strictly Come Dancing co-star and close friend Dianne during their very own viewing party. Taking to Instagram on the evening of its debut, Dianne gushed over Amy and shared snaps from their evening. In the caption she wrote: “Can not describe how bloomin proud I am of this wonderful woman @amy_dowden what a documentary, you are so brave for showing the realness I and I am sure this is going to help so many others. “I’m just so happy your back doing what you love beside us all. Make sure you give it a watch @bbciplayer strictly Amy: Cancer and me.” Amy replied to the heartfelt message and penned: “Love you xxx.”

In the photos from the evening Amy and Dianne could be seen cosied up on the sofa together, along with two pals, as they watched the BBC documentary. A sign was hung on the wall which read “proud of you” in a nod to Amy, while they also popped a bottle of fizz and had some snacks. Amy looked on with a smile in one snap, while her Strictly pal, who makes a feature in the show, looked on with admiration. Before the screening, the friends along with Dianne’s partner Joe Snuggs, also enjoyed a “pre documentary meal” with pizza and snacks, in full support of their Welsh dancer. Fans were just as emotional as they watched Amy’s documentary and took to X, formerly Twitter, with their support. One wrote: “Four minutes in, and already I’m in awe of #AmyDowden. Her courage and positivity is beyond belief. Keep fighting and dancing our Welsh Queen. We’ve got you.” Sign up to OK!’s daily newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free
