In a touching conversation with MasterChef’s Jake Quickenden, she reflected on her upbringing. The couple faced criticism online following their gender reveal party. They posted a video on Instagram where they, along with their two sons, cut into a cake with a champagne flute, revealing a blue sponge inside, indicating another boy was on the way. Sophie’s apparent disappointment was captured when she remarked, “Where are all the girls at,” reports the Mirror. This prompted some of their followers to comment that they “should be grateful” for the ability to have children at all. Jake stood up for his wife’s initial reaction but also wanted to clarify how thrilled they are about welcoming another child. He explained: “I am a boy dad so I was always happy but maybe there was a little bit of ‘I wish it was a girl’ from Sophie.” He added: “I was never about shopping as some people suggested as she can do that with the two boys, I guess from her part it was more like, being there at the birth of her baby and maybe picking the wedding dress for her.”

Jake retorted: ” I thought it was brave of Soph to admit that maybe she did feel a certain way. It was really brave and people are always going to have opinions.” Ranvir nodded in agreement, revealing she understood how the couple must have felt, and noted that it’s a “taboo subject” that people often don’t discuss. The MasterChef star reassured: “But after 10 seconds of that initial ‘where are all the girls at? ‘ she was like ‘omg, it’s going to be amazing’.”

However, having come from an Indian family, Ranvir appreciated the significance of a newborn’s gender. She explained: “You know coming from Indian culture everyone wants a boy, it’s a big big thing and I’m the third of three sisters.” Ranvir jokingly added: “So all throughout my childhood I was told by my mum’s best friends ‘oh when you were born everybody cried, we all cried, everybody was so miserable’.” Lorraine is on ITV weekdays at 9amStory SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
